Cinnamon Apples (crock-pot recipe)

Date November 24, 2009

I didn’t have my camera when I made these so you’ll have to use your imagination until I can make it again and shoot a photo.

We had a ton of apples in the house so I decided to make a crock pot of cinnamon apples. Easy and delicious. The end result was like apple pie… without the crust. Apple crisp… without the crisp. Spicy sweet and with some heavy cream – fantastic!

Cinnamon Apples
start in morning and enjoy that night

6 apples, peeled and sliced into thin slices
1/4 cup butter (optional)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 Tbl cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 Tbl lemon juice
1/4 cup gluten-free flour

Peel and slice apples. Place remaining ingredients (EXCEPT flour) into the crock pot and toss to coat.

Cook on low heat (5-6 hours) until apples are tender. Remove 1 cup of liquid and mix thoroughly with gluten-free flour. Add to pot contents and stir to combine. Cook another 30 minutes or until sauce has thickened.

Serve with ice cream or whip cream. Enjoy!

It’s taken me a while to sign up with the new blog service, but I -did- make this right after you posted the recipe…with one addition: fresh cranberries. It was great on ice cream, but what I discovered was that even better, it makes the BEST addition to scone batter!
