Cookies: baking & photos

Date March 4, 2009

I’m getting ready to open my gluten-free bakeshop, She Loves Cake so I’ve been busy baking cookies to shoot for the site. Yesterday I went to my gluten-free kitchen and baked 4 different types of cookies, cupcakes, and a batch of muffins. Such fun!

I depend, in part, on the weather when I shoot my photos. I use a combination of natural light and camera lights. Today the weather refused to cooperate. It was gray and overcast. After 50+ botched photos I decided to call it a day and work on it tomorrow. The photo here is the only one that turned out.

These are Ginger Lasses. Supremely soft cookies with delicate crisp edges – the perfect cookie. Spicy and sweet with lots of rich molasses and a few special spices. Delicious.

The website will feature a range of gluten-free cookies, brownies, cupcakes, muffins, and a few bread offerings. In addition, this weekend will be my introduction to the local farmer’s market. I’ll be setting up there with baked goods and mixes. As far as I know, I’m the first fully gluten-free vendor to set up shop here. It’s great! I’m all set to break into the marketplace one order at a time.
