Finally. She’s going home.
November 12, 2009
After nearly 1 month in the hospital, Emily goes home tomorrow. Hooray! She is in a halo for 3-6 months, still has open wounds on her abdomen that need to be dressed and packed twice daily, and is over past few days up and walking around — so she has a VERY long recovery ahead of her. But we are all overjoyed that she lived through this and is out this quickly.
You can read all about her and her hubby here: http://joshandemilydickens.com. You’ll also find a link to the Facebook Group we set up for them so we can keep everyone up-to-date on what is happening with her recovery.
Thank you to everyone who posted such kind notes here and dropped me emails. That meant so much in the midst of this tragedy. And thank you also to those who donated so generously to Emily and Josh. It is so very much appreciated.
I hope to be back to posting gluten-free living again one day soon! Especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. Lots of delicious recipes to be had during this season.

I found your blog when looking for a GF pie crust recipie–first Thanksgiving GF and all. I too got married in September, so the story about your sister and her new husband really hit home. I read the story to my husband and he too welled up thinking about all your family and the family that lost two of their loved ones is going through right now. So wonderful that you can be there to help them, but also really hard too. You are ALL in our prayers, and we will help as we can.
